Boo Hoo! Conservative Pundits Upset that Obama Doesn't Entertain Them

Barack Obama gave a prime-time news conference last night, the second in his two-month administration. The president started with a short statement and went on to answer questions for about 50 minutes. 

The reviews of Obama's performance were largely positive, but there were dissenters. Some criticism was policy-based and thoughtful, which is a constructive (and normal) part of the political process. 

Then there's crap like this. Fox News blowhard Fred Barnes previewing the president's presser: "I hope there are no more five-minute answers. It's hard to stay awake." 

And this: Professional gossip Matt Drudge's headline summing up the press conference: "Being Boring." 

Or this: Fox News bully Bill O'Reilly: "While the president was authoritative tonight, he was also dull and repetitive." 

Or Fox News know-nothing Sean Hannity: "Besides being boring and dull and uninspiring and unconvincing, you know, he cannot really pull it off…." 

If you're a right-wing pundit, it's all about the president's entertainment value. In this fun-house, you can't be a real leader if you're dull or boring. Somehow, these pundits are convinced that entertaining Americans is equivalent to making the difficult decisions that any president has to make to lead the nation. 

News flash: This idea is wrong. It's idiotic. It's superficial. And it's one more sign that the Republican Right has nothing significance to say.
