We'll be back later this month with a whole new batch of issues and events—and our always-insightful (ha!) comments about them.
Meanwhile, we recommend a host of national and local blogs and websites listed on the right-hand side below.

From Talking Pints memo today:
Authoritarian Mindset
It's probably not too soon to note the thread connecting the Bush administration's practice of only allowing certified Bush-loyal attendees at their town hall events (from the Social Security phase-out day) and what's happening now with these tea-party activists ginned by Freedom Works with instructions to shut down Democratic town halls dealing with health care. From a superficial perspective one might say, well, isn't the point that the town halls aren't supposed to be scripted to a T? You want to get some hustle and bustle, some engagement of opposing views? But as I noted earlier, what the tea bagger mobs are doing is qualitatively different. They're sending in these groups to shut down the meeting entirely.
Both cases are distressingly telling examples of the authoritarian mentality so often found in right-wing politics -- force and mob action to shut down actual discussion. It two sides of the same coin -- the right in power versus the right out of power.
Par for the course.

Creationism theme park in Pensacola (Dinosaur Adventure Land) to be seized
"Kent Hovind, who founded the park and a ministry, Creation Science Evangelism, is serving 10 years in federal prison for failing to pay the Internal Revenue Service more than $470,000 in employee taxes.
"He was found guilty in November 2006 on 58 counts, including failure to pay employee taxes and making threats against investigators.
"The conviction culminated 17 years of Hovind sparring with the IRS. Saying he was employed by God and his ministers were not subject to payroll taxes, he claimed no income or property."
Too bad. Maybe the revenuers can recoup the taxes by turning the park into the Flintstones' "Bedrock," where dinosaurs and humans happily cohabit (although this notion stands in stark contradiction to the fossil record.)

Bad news for Ted Haggard and Larry Craig
Yahoo News:
"In a resolution adopted on a 125-to-4 vote by the American Psychological Association's governing council, and in a comprehensive report based on two years of research, the 150,000-member association put itself firmly on record in opposition of so-called "reparative therapy" which seeks to change sexual orientation.
"No solid evidence exists that such change is likely, says the report, and some research suggests that efforts to produce change could be harmful, inducing depression and suicidal tendencies."
On Haggard from Wikipedia:
"After the scandal was publicized, Haggard entered three weeks of intensive counseling, overseen by four ministers. In February 2007, one of those ministers, Tim Ralph, said that Haggard 'is completely heterosexual.' Ralph later said he meant that therapy "gave Ted the tools to help to embrace his heterosexual side."As of early 2009, Haggard continues to receive counseling, and now he says that he is a 'heterosexual with issues.'”
Maybe Cheney encouraged him?
A French Revelation, or The Burning Bush
"Former French President Jacques Chirac says that in 2003, President Bush asked him to send troops to Iraq to stop Gog and Magog, the 'Bible’s satanic agents of the Apocalypse.'"
"It’s awkward to say openly, but now-departed President Bush is a religious crackpot, an ex-drunk of small intellect who 'got saved.' He never should have been entrusted with the power to start wars."
Duh.

Sorry, Karl Rove. Your strategy for the GOP is in ruins for at least a generation.
