We're speaking, of course, of state Sen. Randy Brogdon, Owasso Republican and one of the finest minds of the 1950s.
Brogdon, who's recent claim to fame has been to argue against the state accepting federal stimulus money, has almost no name recognition outside of Owasso.
Here's the Brogdon announcement, made today in Oklahoma City:
A Republican state senator from Owasso is making it official today: He’s running for governor.
Sen. Randy Brogdon is announcing his bid during today’s Oklahoma Republican Convention at the Clarion Meridian Convention Center in Oklahoma City, his campaign announced this morning.

Brogdon has been active in the so-called taxpayers' bill of rights movement and is a national spokesman for the John Birch Society. He has also been outspoken in support of state sovereignty and in opposition to national identification cards and data gathering.
A March poll by Soonerpoll.com showed Brogdon with a 4 percent favorable rating among five possible gubernatorial candidates. More than 90 percent of respondents either had no opinion or had not heard of him.

He'll have a tough time competing with such luminaries as Mary Fallin and J.C. Watts on the GOP side. He needs to get out in front of those Tulsa teabaggers before they blow away.
To imply advocating states' rights and resisting federal tyranny is old fashioned is ridiculous. I know in this downgraded, lazy, radically egalitarian society it's not fashionable to adhere to moral principles or seek anything beyond self-gratification, but trashing Brogdon for having the testicular fortitude to fight for what he believes in reveals a lot about you (or a lot about what you lack). I guess you're the champion of the bastard sons of the me generation in the Tulsa area.
I frankly hope Brogdon gets out there and fully exposes his beliefs. Then everyone will have a sound basis for her vote.
Obviously, I think such a course will do him in politically, but hey, that's just me.
It would be interesting to learn if Randy subscribes to the fundamental premises which underlie JBS ideology i.e. that most of our national leaders during the past 8 decades have been "traitors" or "communist sympathizers/agents".
Or if he subscribes to the JBS notion that "a conspiracy of gangsters" sets our current domestic and foreign policies?
Or, alternatively, does he accept the characterizations of J. Edgar Hoover and senior FBI officials who described the JBS in FBI memos as "extremist", "irrational", "irresponsible", "fanatics" and "lunatic fringe"?
