Poll Shows Obama Has Earned Political Capital

The GOP naysayers keep trying to spoil the moment, but President Obama is succeeding with the American public.

Here are new poll results, which show that the ranters and talk radio blowhards (including the Tulsa tea party crowd) are largely being ignored.

Some highlights from today's numbers:
WASHINGTON — President Obama's opening months in the Oval Office have fortified his standing with the American public, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds, giving him political capital for battles ahead.

As his 100th day as president approaches next Wednesday, the survey shows Obama has not only maintained robust approval ratings but also bolstered the sense that he is a strong and decisive leader who can manage the government effectively during a time of economic crisis.

"A lot of things were ignored over the last eight years, and I think it's all coming home to roost," says Benjamin Bleadon, 51, an insurance broker from Skokie, Ill., who was among those surveyed. "He has given the perception that he understands the issues and that he has taken control … and we'll just have to wait and see if it works."

Since October, the percentage who see Obama as a "strong and decisive leader" has jumped 12 percentage points, and his image as an effective manager has gone up 11 points.

Now, I can scarce believe it, but our good friend Man of the West seems to be dumping on us a bit in his blog.

He feels that we come off as "total sycophants" with respect to Democrats, and that we misjudge Obama's competence. He goes on to say:

"In particular, I just about spewed coffee all over my screen when I read their inane thoughts to the effect that President Obama had renewed respect for America around the globe. I thought about trying to sum up my take on the Obama administration at some point, and then, the other day, I heard Rush give about as good a summing up as I could, so I thought I'd just quote him."

Way to go, showing us how not to be sycophantic!

Then follows page after page of unrelieved, verbatim Limbaugh. Rush finally winds up with this:

"Sorry, folks, it's just tough to stomach. Tough to deal with on a daily basis."

Probably not so tough for him, just grist for his profitable mill.

Probably pretty tough for his listeners who lap up his bilge on a daily basis.

Having begun to emerge from the eight-year umbra of W and pals, we can offer useful advice to the unimpressive minority who despise Obama:

Head over to Sam's Club and bulk up on Pepto, Mylanta and Immodium AD. Or maybe we can cut you a deal on our remaining supply.

Sorry for the double post. Didn't mean to be THAT emphatic.
