Rewriting History: Bush Fudges His Taliban Statement

Being George Bush, apparently, means never having to say you're wrong. You just rewrite history.

Too bad that we have digital recording and old-fashioned fact-checking these days, which help real people establish actual facts.

The incident in question is his statement yesterday in Afghanistan. Defending his policies there, Bush stated, "I never said that the Taliban was eliminated."

Except that he didThink Progress has the exact quotes (yes, he said it more than once).

Speaking in September 2002: "The Taliban's ability to brutalize the Afghan people and to harbor and support terrorists has been virtually eliminated."

In April 2002: "With the Taliban eliminated and al-Qaida badly damaged, we have move into the second stage of our war on terror.

There's more Bush revisionism on the Think Progress site here

But you've gotta give it up for Bush. Ducking those well-aimed shoes in Iraq stands as his most impressive "feet".
