Our population of paranoid-style thinkers and our population of fundamentalists have something in common: a Manichean view of the world. The two groups' memberships no doubt overlap quite a bit.
The agnostic Rove and his buddies coolly exploited this worldview by feeding them fat on red meat issues, harnessing them all for the GOP. He was very successful. This group is now the core of the GOP.
But voters have had just about enough of them. Look at the graph just below this post. Identification with the party is headed south in more ways than one.

Love the apocalyptic "Exorcist" music Fox plays behind their Obama clip. Very dramatic, especially for the weak-minded.
