Talk Radio and Lowbrow Conservativism: How the Right Went Wrong

From the pages of The American Conservative (no kidding):
Thus a liberal like E.J. Dionne can write, “The cause of Edmund Burke, Leo Strauss, Robert Nisbet and William F. Buckley Jr. is now in the hands of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity. … Reason has been overwhelmed by propaganda, ideas by slogans.” Talk radio has contributed mightily to this development.

Why Bobby Jindal sounded like he was talking to 5 year olds: the 15-20% of deadenders remaining as the GOP hardcore respond well to that level of discourse.

Keep up the good work, Bobby, your party is Swir(l)skying down the toilet.

Strauss is kind of a creepy character, from what I have read. The rest of the quote is spot on though. Unfortunately many Democrats in power and those on the left seem to think that the Fairness Doctrine is the answer. I think that reinstituting the Fairness Doctrine or some policy like it would be a very bad idea. There will be successful liberal talk show hosts, once one immerges that has the talent for doing a talk show that Limbaugh has. Think what you will about the guy (lord knows I hate his tactics and think he is nothing more than a polemic), the man knows how to run a show and captivate an audience.
