Debate Verdict: McCain Good, Obama Better
Here's the judgment of conservative Stephen Hayes, writing in the conservative Weekly Standard:
John McCain had a very strong debate tonight. It's too bad for him that it cam on a night when Barack Obama was nearly flawless.

The most memorable moments of the debate were McCain referring to Obama as "That one" like a grumpy old grandpa, and McCain shuffling around the stage like an unsteady old grandpa.
His repeated line about us needing a "steady hand at the tiller" isn't a winner. Neither is his overuse of the phrase "my friends."

"My friend" almost makes him sound liek a saleseman
