Minnesota Update: Democrat Franken Edges Ahead in Senate Race

Al Franken may be the new senator from Minnesota, ousting Republican Norm Coleman.

The latest results from the Minnesota state canvassing board shows Franken, a Democrat, ahead by 48 votes out of 3 million that were cast on November 4.

Franken is best known as a comedian and satirist. Educated at Harvard, Franken was a once cast member of Saturday Night Live and wrote a popular political book called Rush Limbaugh Is A Big, Fat Idiot, the title of which is self-explanatory.

Press reports say the final determination on the election will come in January, though the decision is likely to wind up in court.
